“Every day I put love on the line. There is nothing I am less good at than love. I am far better in competition than in love. I am far better at responding to my instincts and ambitions to get ahead and make my mark than I am at figuring out how to love another. I am schooled and trained in acquisitive skills, in getting my own way. And yet I decide, every day, to set aside what I can do best and attempt what I do very clumsily-open myself to the frustrations and failures of loving, daring to believe that failing in love is better than succeeding in pride.”

We had such a great time playing at Liberty this past weekend. Mike, Pat and James were totally killer. And the students were very kind as well. So it was all around a great time.
In other news: Mike (far left in the picture above) has challenged me to a haiku war over at his blog. I’ll be heading over there later today to make my presence known….and you should too.
So chime in with us-5
Your vocab will grow for sure-7
See ya over there-5

Thursday night James, Pat, Mike and I are heading up to Liberty University to play for convocation on Friday. So if you’re in the Lynchburg area or a student at LU, please come out and hear us….well, if you’re a student you don’t really have a choice, eh? (Alum ‘02, go flames)
Anyways, here’s a video of us playing there last year…sorry it’s so short, we ran out of battery. We’ll get some better shots this time around.
Hope to see some of you Friday.

I can’t wait to get this CD. I think it officially releases tomorrow, but the kind people at his new record label have posted the song for all of us to listen to here.
So head on over and listen to the songs….hurry though, I doubt that they’ll keep that link up for long.
And you can pre-order the CD here.

Hello there all. I apologize for my absence from the blog. The college ministry went on our Fall Retreat and we had spotty internet coverage… and I was really busy every day we were gone. But I did take a few pictures with my phone.
Our big group meeting time:
The moleskins that we gave for note-taking:

The sweet beard that I’ve been working on:

Some crucial yard art that we saw on the way down to camp:
Also, the Robbie Seay concert went really well. RSB puts on an amazing show. They played a few new songs that I can’t wait to hear recordings of.
Hope you all have a great monday.

-Last night James and I spent some time going through the songs for Wednesday night. We typically play these songs with a full band, so it’s kind of weird/fun to figure out how to play them dynamically with just the two of us.
-The video is us practicing Sweet Substitution.
-The winner to our contest for free tickets to the Hope, Coffee and Melody show is (drum roll) Nick Roark. Thanks so much for submitting comments.
-If you haven’t yet gotten tickets head on over to this website.
-If you come wednesday please say hello.

A few days ago a friend of mine, Jeff Capps, (who, by the way, has a great ep out that you should all go check out) called and said that he was helping the Robbie Seay Band plan out with their Hope, Coffee & Melody tour. They wanted a local artist to be one of the openers for their Raleigh stop, so they asked some good friends of mine SMB. But they are going to be in Texas recording. So they brought in the righty to help….which i’m so happy to do.
I was really hoping that this tour would come near Raleigh, because I wanted to see Robbie and Allie Roger. Plus they’re apperently selling some amazing coffee at the show.
So, if you’re in the Raleigh area you should totally come out next Wednesday night, October 15th. The doors open at 6 and the festivities start at 7.
And since I’m not above bribing, let’s have a give away here on the blog for one ticket and a copy of my cd Adore and Tremble. All you have to do is comment on your favorite Robbie Seay Band song. If you have numerous favorites you can post that as well…but one will get you in the mix for the ticket and cd. I’ll randomly select our winner on monday. Sound good? If you’re not from Raleigh and win, I’ll mail you the CD… but, sorry, I can’t fly you in for the concert. haha.
If you don’t win, here is a site with ticket information.
Hope to see ya’ll out there.

One of the events that we look forward to all year in the College Ministry here at Providence is the Fall Retreat. We try to do a good job advertising the retreat because it’s such an important weekend of intentional times of togetherness and getting to know each other on a deeper level.
So this is one of the videos that we shot to advertise the Fall Retreat. The guy who shot/edited this is amazing….his name is Wes Latta. Keep an eye out for his name in the future….he’s got some serious talent. My brother and sister-in-law, Adam and Natalie, are in there as well. And all of the other people in the “class” in our ministry.
Enjoy.
