I love this definition of Worship leading…” A faithful worhsip leaders magnifies the greatness of God in Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy  Spirt by skillfully combining God’s Word with music, thereby motivating the gathered church to proclaim the gospel, to cherish God’s presence, and to live for God’s glory.” (Worship Matters, pg. 55)

It comes from Bob Kauflin’s book Worship Matters.  If you are involved with leading musical worship, you need to get this book.  If you know someone who leads musical worship you should encourage them to get this book.  If Oscar Rogers from SNL were writing this he would say, “you need to GET IT.  You need to press the buttons above that say Bob Kauflin or Worship Matters, and GET IT!”

Worship Matters is a reflection of Kauflin’s personal experience from over 20 years of worship leading.  He is honest about his own mistakes and sins, and identifies many issues that worship leaders face….tackling each of them with a biblical response.  His approach to musical worship is theologically rich but also practically helpful-everything from examining your heart and dealing with pride, to how to choose songs.

He also has a really interesting blog called Worship Matters, where you can find CD projects that he’s been involved in and other helpful resources.

Dude, I seriously just started reading this today, and then I come here to see this blog post. It is encouraging to see other worship leaders I admire are digging into the same resources. I believe this is an affirmation for me that I am heading in the right direction.
I think Bob Kauflin is such a great guy to learn from in reference to worship and what it means for the church. I have encountered his leadership on a number of occasions, and I am hoping this book provides the insight I need to become the type of leader he has become, giving all glory, honor and praise to the King!
    Thanks for this post!
