We (Mike, Patrick, James, Ben and I) all lead worship for a men’s retreat in Asheville at a place called The Cove.  Or as James refers to it; Hagwarts…ha.  I LOVE playing music and spending time with these guys.  Here are a few pics from our time together.  One of them is taken from the cove website to prove to you that we did actually lead music at Hogwarts.

Last night I recorded what I think will be the final vocals for JWMH.  I promise that I’m not exaggerating when I say that it was the most comfortable I’ve ever been recording vocals.  James is an AMAZING producer/engineer.  He worked his butt off to figure out a good system/mix for recording vocals last night.  We finished all three songs in about 2.5 hours.  2.5 hours!  That doesn’t happen.  Unless your James Childs it doesn’t happen….HAHAH.  Totally kidding.

I took some video last night and realized as I was uploading it that isn’t a recording of my final vocal take…it was an earlier recording.  BUT, at least you get to see James working on the song a little bit.

Check out this AWESOME poster that my good friend Austin Simmons made last week.  He made them on this super old letter press.  Apparently its really similar to the Gutenberg printing press.  Which was the printing press that gave us the first printed Bible all the way back in the 1400′s.

So thankful for the caaarrrrazzzy talented friends that have helped make JWMH such a cool project.

Can’t wait for y’all to hear the songs.

Oh and we’ll print some of these these and sell them on the website once its released.

About a year ago I started writing a song called “Love, Love, Love.”  Below is a video of me playing it for my girls soon after I had written it.  I wrote it to teach them about the big picture of the gospel.  Starting with creation and going to Jesus dying for sins.  My favorite line in the song is in the chorus when it says “He has loved you long before you could have loved Him in return.”  One of the most fundamental things I want my daughters to know about God is that His action in their life on their behalf is an act of His grace.  They won’t ever do a thing that could merit it.  But praise God He has acted.  He sent Christ to weak, feeble people in need of rescue.  He has ABSOLUTELY loved us long before we could have love Him in return.

As you can see from the video the song was a big hit with my girls.  Ha.  It was so cool to hear them singing a song with words they could grasp…but concepts they probably won’t fully realize for a few more years.  SO, the idea was birthed.  Why not write a bunch of songs that will teach my girls good theology?

I read a statistic today that said parents that try to pass along some sort of religious belief to their children have a 50/50 success rate.  Obviously that is taking lots of religions into account…some that I wouldn’t agree with, but the point is clear…Raising children is a fight.  It’s a fight to press values into them while the world, and our own struggle with sin, fights against us.  I’m praying that these songs (the 3 we’re releasing and the 6 in the hopper) will help you in that fight.  I’m praying MANY fruitful discussions will happens because of these songs.  I’m praying God will use these songs to help keep and protect kids.  I’m praying that each of you will tell 1000 of your closest friends to go buy it on iTunes.  HAHAHA.  Totally kidding about that last one…well kinda.

So this is might catch a few of you off guard.  But we’ve been recording a Children’s CD for the last few months.  It didn’t look like we would release it for a while though…so i haven’t been talking about it a ton.  Then just a few weeks ago we just decided to push through and finish 3 of the songs and send them off to itunes.  So, thats what we’re doing.  The songs should be up in the next two weeks or so.  We’re busy putting the finishing touches on the songs right now.

James Childs is producing the album.  He is hands down one of the most talented guys I know.  So glad he’e working on this project.

Anyways, i recorded a few takes from our sessions a couple of nights ago….here’s one of them.  Hope you enjoy.

Like I mentioned above we’re putting the finishing touches on our kids album, Jesus Wants My Heart.  We’re only releasing 3 songs right now.  We’re hoping that the money we make on these will allow us to release the final 6 songs…..so buy a TON…..hahah.

The album is actually named after one of the songs that we’re not releasing right now.  So it might seem weird that its called Jesus Wants My Heart, but there is no mention of that title or lyric in these first three songs.
